This historic balconied theater, was first opened on December 8th, 1927.

The first film ever shown on it's screen was, " Smile, brother, Smile " starring Jack Mulhall and Dorothy Mackaill. Following that first evening of Hollywood glamor and vaudeville talent, The State Theater would go on to be the home of many happy memories and long remembered friends. From movies, to music, to Broadway caliber productions on it's stage, The State Theater was always a multi purpose entertainment facility, even when it's name was changed to the " Stoughton Cinema Pub. "

Only 6 days shy of it's 80th birthday, the cinema closed it's doors on an uncertain future. December 2nd, 2007 marked a sad day to many who called this theater home.

Three years later, the building was purchased with the intent of saving it, bringing it back to it's former glory to once again be called the home of all who entered it's doors. With the help of STARS Community Theater, a non-profit, theater organization, The State Theater goes into it's rebirth stages.

Now it's up to all those who have fond memories of this beautiful theater, and all those who want to make memories for the future to save this piece of history. Help us Save the State Theater!

THANK YOU!
There have been a few people that have gone above and beyond with help during this
saving the theater process. This is where we say thank you, and hope that everybody
looks into them if you ever need help in their line of work.

Rosa F. McCabe - Of CADD TECHnologies, Architectural design and services
Rosa is a saint. After meeting with multiple Architects and receiving astronomical
quotes for their services, Rosa walked in and completely donated her time. Rosa
has helped us with our code complience review, as well as designing our plans and
blue prints for the future theater. Rosa will always be a friend of The State Theater and
   will always be welcome.

John is the one responsible for putting all the right people together to start the
conversations which led to this rebuilding process. We will never be able to thank
John for all he has done.

STOUGHTON MEDIA ACCESS CORPORATION - Stephen Innis
Stephen Innis is the Executive Director of SMAC. He has begun donating his time to
document the State Theater during the process of rebuilding. We will be working
closely with Stephen and SMAC during the revitalization of The State Theater.

Mark Snyder - Journilist of Snyders Stoughton
From the day news about the theater surfaced, it was Mark Snyder that has been
spreading the word. We can not thank Mark enough for the publicity that he has
triggered through his popular website. To this day Mark continues to report on the
State Theater, and he continues to post all of our fundraisers on his website. We are
Very grateful for Mark Snyder, and look to continue our friendship by giving all of our
up to date stories for him to publish.
